Brother Jimmy spent much of his youth with his maternal grandmother and uncles at Crossmill Farm. His talent was singing, and he performed on stage at concerts throughout the area. His stage jewellery, a ring with a large arificial diamond, is still in the family. Jimmy never married. He ran a small haulage business, until he died in 1947. Uncle John Keith took this over, and it continued until the late sixties. He lived in the family home at 130 Cross Arthurlie Street, until his father died in 1928. By that time Granny Keith and her children had moved in to look after her father. Following the death, the brother, sister and her family moved to a smaller house at 124 Cross Arthurlie Street. They could not afford to remain at 130. Jimmy stayed with Granny Keith until shortly before he died. He moved in with a family friend, Cathy Stevenson (nee Hay), and stayed with her for the remainder of his life. It does seem a pity, but despite Granny Keith looking after him for a number of years, he excluded her from his will, leaving his money, instead, to Cathy. He did however keep in touch with the family. There is a photo of him at Kirkton Mill, and he did visit there after Johan was born in 1947, he gave her a Sovereign which she wears in a brooch setting, so he wasn't too mean, was he? Cathy Hay (as she continued to be referred to) will be mentioned again later. She was Granny Keith's neice, by marriage.
