Dear John and Christine,
Another year has flown by, and I must apologies straight away for not writing before.
On September 6th John’s mum Margaret passed away. On Monday 4th she had not drawn back her bedroom curtains as usual, so John went in at 8.00am to find her still in bed, complaining that she had had a bad night and had been sick. She said that she felt that she would be better to stay in bed that day. I called the doctor who said he would be round in the morning if she was not showing signs of improvement.
By Tues. morning she was feeling better and wanted to get up and dressed. The doctor did come at 11am and presented me with a prescription for her sickness. I rang to Jean to ask if she could come and sit with her while I went off for it.
When I returned Jean was just putting her back to bed. She stayed there for a couple of hours then wanted to get up again. She seemed to go very calm and kept gazing out of the window. She wanted to know was Jean coming again at night and whether David was coming too.
I felt concerned and managed to get hold of John who was hedge cutting, Jean and David came around 6pm. She had fallen asleep in her chair. When David came I tried to waken her but she had slipped into unconsciousness. We alerted the ambulance, but they too could not rouse her. John and Jean followed the ambulance to Macclesfield District General Hospital. They left at 10pm. At 4am we were woken by a call from the hospital to say the she had died.
She would have approved of the way that she went, and we could not have wished for it to have happened in a nicer way. She had had her 95th birthday in August, and living was getting to be a real struggle.
There was a wonderful service for her at Nether Alderley Church, followed by buriel in the church yard and buffet lunch in the Parish Room also in the Church boundary. She would have been so surprised at the fact that between 80 and 90 people attended, she always said that there would be very few at her funeral, because all her friends had gone before her.
She was a wonderful lady, and a very dear mother-in-law to me. She had been living next door to us for 35.5 years. Where do these years go to? I am so pleased that you called in last year, she really enjoyed meeting you again.
At this point we are not sure what we will be doing with the bungalow. At the moment I have two young boys age 15 and 16 years in there. They have come over from Malaysia. They have been spotted as young foot ball talent by Ken Barnes who used to play for Manchester City. They are here for nearly 4 weeks and go for training at Wigan.
I am still very busy with the B&B even at this time of year, and my Christmas preparations are very behind, but I do not mind as I have such nice people to stay.
I am still chair of the Cheshire Farm accommodation group, but I hope to cast the job in March, I have done it now for four years.
John is very busy with his hedgecutting again. He recovered from his hip operation in Jan last year very well, and is so much better at walking now.
Today we have been dagging lambs ready for taking to the butchers/market. We have put 88 inside where they can keep dry and clean. It has been quite wet here recently and the fields can get a bit muddy in gate ways, and the butchers want them clean.
Best Regards to you both and all your family. Have a very Happy Christmas.
Love From Isobel.
