It opened in 1902 as a single roomed school and in a1915 a second room was added. Teachers boarded with parents until 1908 when a school house was built and the house is still lived in today The school was demolished many years ago. I have found Mary Stevenson on the roll. She attended Chamberlain School from 1926 to 1934 When I was a pupil at Albury School I was taught in the hall supper room by a Miss Molly Stevenson. I assume that this is your mother Mary Stevenson. I remember well the day when some pupils put a baby rabbit in her table drawer and the fright she got when she opened it. I remember Bill Stevenson who farmed 'Ardyne' at the top of the Chamberlain Road. He was a very tall thin man The property was sold to D Taylor who sold it to D Cunningham and is now owned by L Groundwater. The house was burned down many years ago and has not been replaced. The only information we have about Mary Stevenson is that she lives in Oamaru. Could you please send me her postal address and I will forward a registration form to her. William and Jessie were married in Riwaka ( April 29 1918 ) at Jim Scotts house – the house still exists. I know they weren’t able to marry in a church because she was Catholic and he was Presbyterian. The deal was the boys would be bought up Catholic and the girls Presbyterian. John Murray was a witness so I assume he was a son of Janets brother who lived in NZ ? According to the marriage certificate John Murray was a farmer at Riwaka. Source Sarah Littlejohn.
